In the closing verses of Jeremiah, after a detailed account of Jerusalem’s destruction and exile, an unexpected moment of grace appears as Jehoiachin, the exiled Davidic king, is released from prison and welcomed at the Babylonian king’s table. This shift from devastation to dignity reveals God’s enduring commitment to His covenant promises, even after judgment. Pastor Jamie Self highlights this as a powerful picture of the gospel, showing how God invites us daily into relational, restorative presence through Christ.
Discussion Questions:
1. Can you share a time in your life when you felt like you were in exile or forgotten? How did God meet you in that season, or are you still waiting on Him now?
2. Jehoiachin’s restoration came after 37 years. Is there something in your life that feels delayed or uncertain? How does this part of the story speak to your view of God's timing?
3. The invitation to sit at the King’s table reflects dignity, belonging, and intimacy with God. What does that invitation look like in your life right now? What might need to shift for you to experience it more fully?
4. Time with God can easily become a task instead of a relationship. What would your week look like if you approached time with Jesus as a shared meal instead of something to check off?
5. Think about someone in your life who watches how you live. If you were living like someone who truly feasts with the King, what do you think they would notice? What would you hope they begin to want for themselves?
