One of the most common questions about the Command Line Assistant (CLA) is whether it can run entirely in your own data center. Today the answer is no. CLA takes your query and sends it to a Watsonx backend over the internet, then returns the result to your terminal. You cannot swap out the model or redirect it to another backend at this time. The roadmap includes future options for configuring CLA to point to a different endpoint, and eventually for organizations to customize the model to their own standards. But for now, CLA requires internet access and runs against Red Hat’s maintained model. In this episode, we explain why that design was chosen, what it means for enterprise users, and where things are headed.
