I wrote Esperanza for a Latin American harp ensemble workshop, and at the time I was somewhat hooked on the clapping and heel stamping of flamenco dancing so included both in the piece. In practice of course, not all harpists will be wearing the right sort of heels on the right sort of floor, so drumming on the soundboard is an appropriate alternative. Directions for when to do what are included in the printed score and parts. There's an optional extra verse for just rhythmic clapping and stamping / soundboard-drumming – that's also in the printed score and not included here.
The melody and both harmony parts are passed between players throughout the piece, so everyone gets an equal share.
