Kingston, Jamaica. The Palace Theatre. February 7th, 1959.
Fourteen-year-old Robert Nesta Marley stood backstage with a beat-up guitar, his hands shaking.
Two hundred people were in the audience.
Bob walked onto the stage. The lights were blinding.
He started playing. His guitar was out of tune.
People started laughing.
His voice came out shaky. People started walking out.
By the second verse, the crowd was talking loudly, not even listening.
"Get off the stage!"
The audience started booing. Two hundred people united in rejection.
Bob stopped playing. Tears filled his eyes. He turned to leave.
Then one sound cut through the booing.
One man in the middle of the audience stood up and started clapping.
He was the only person standing.
What that man did next changed Bob Marley's life forever.
