Avon High School - Avon, Indiana
The Avon marching band, Avon Marching Black and Gold, led by Jay Webb, Matt Harloff, and Robert Burns, was ranked number one in the state of Indiana by the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) seven years in a row (two times in Class B, five times in Class A). The winning streak ended during the ISSMA state championship on November 1, 2008, when they placed second by one-tenth of a point. They again placed first in Class A on October 31, 2009 and the following year on October 30, 2010. On November 15, 2008, they placed first for the first time in the school's history during Bands of America Grand National Championships, a national competition in which 80 to 90 high school marching bands compete every year. Avon scored a 97.75, out of a possible 100 points. It is the highest score received at any Bands of America event. On November 14, 2009, Avon successfully defended its title as BOA Grand National Champion, making them the first band since 1991 to win that title consecutively. On November 13, 2010, Avon once again defended their National title, making them the first band to win the title three consecutive times since Marian Catholic in 1989.
The band has been selected to perform in the 2012 New Year's Day Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.
