Deep River (Black spiritual) 深い河（黒人霊歌より）

A prelude performance on 7th, June. I had an inordinate sensation by listening this song by Mahalia Jackson's recording. I did feel my soul was penetrated through ears and heart. After years in my mid 30's, I reencountered this song when I was in Seoul, Korea in my business trip (direct chorus festival by international school floundering too many unwelcome issues not only in career but also in private. My bus was heading to the airport along to the biggest river "Han", reflecting the genial sunshine in miles away, then this song by Yale Glee Club came to me through my tiny MP3 music player. The song itself was not the solution for issues, however, it revitalize my good heart and soul.

Now the world doesn't seems to be fair, rather full of illegitimacy, absurdity, and looting far away from the fundamental points of the issue. In moment like now, this would be a countless tiny performance; but "not nothing". There is always the tiniest thing that only each person can do to make the world be better. I hope this would be just a mustard seed but make harvest for others.

６月７日の礼拝前奏です。幼い時、マヘリア・ジャクソンのこの歌を聞いた時、なんだか耳や心を突き抜けて、魂がズンとするような、鮮烈な印象を受けました。後３０歳半ば、ふとしたことから合唱曲を指導するようになり、黒人霊歌からアレンジされた曲を教えていたので、関連した曲を勉強しているうちに、イェール大学のグリークラブ（イェールのグリーは混声合唱団です）の録音を聴き、強烈に幼い時のイメージを思い出しました。その時は出張でソウルにおり、私はあまりにも心がもがき苦しむ状況が仕事でもプライベートでもたくさんありました。空港に向かうバスの中で、昼下がりの暖かい日差しが向こう岸も見えないような大きな漢江をおだやかに包み込むような、そんな時に再会したのがこの曲でした。やさぐれた私の心に、そのおだやかな流れと日差しのように、なぜか、ポッと寄り添う火が灯ったような、そんなひと時でした。
今、世界がウイルスや権力の横暴、怠慢、本来の問題から逸脱した略奪など、”見えない局面での痛み”を多くかかえていることを覚えざるを得ない時ですので、この曲を選びました。世界のほんの小さな一教会の何のプロでもない奏楽ですが、いつか、同じような奏楽が、この広い世界でまた一つ増えるきっかけになればと願います。
