In this video, I've explained the basics of Osmosis using a simple example. Using the concepts based on this video, you'll be able to determine the direction of flow of water during Osmosis very easily. This video will also be a key video of the series Plant Water Relations in which I'll be explaining other complex topics like Osmotic pressure, Diffusion pressure deficit, Water potential using the same animation. So it's important that you understand this concept explained in this video.

NOTE: The number of water molecules interacting with the solute is used in the example to simplify the concept. It is not necessary that every solute molecule will interact with only 2 water molecules in a solution.

OSMOSIS

Osmosis is a special type of diffusion which involves movement of solvent (only) from region of its high concentration to region of its low concentration across a semi-permeable or selectively permeable membrane.
