With better weather than last year and no rain, the 2023 Viehschau (cattle show) in Gais took place on Saturday, September 22. The cows, bulls, and goats were led to the showground in traditional alpine style (sennisch Auffuhr)—just like during an Alpabzug—featuring decorated bell cows, Sennen, goats, and young goat herders.
Before the ceremonial bells are fastened, the Sennen gather for a traditional Zäuerli (natural yodel) and Schelleschötte (bell swinging).
Before noon, the young breeders (Jungzüchter) are introduced and awarded for their animals and presentations.
