Happy Birthday, Robert Smith!

I've been a Cure fan since I was 8. At 14 I heard Friday I'm in Love on the radio and became obsessed. Turns out that "true" Cure fans snubbed Friday I'm in Love because it had mass appeal. So did Just Like Heaven...So did Pictures of You...For me Friday I'm in Love opened a door into art and depth for me, it got me fascinated with Robert Smith and The Cure's music, all of their music. I spent four full years collecting magazine and newspaper clippings of The Cure, covered every wall in my room with collages and posters until I had to move to the ceiling. I liked other bands, too, but The Cure was the only band that I LOVED deeply. When I was 18, I gave away most of The Cure stuff I'd collected, feeling drawn to a sunnier life. I went back and listened to The Cure from time to time, but it usually reminded me of stale, dark days from my youth, so I didn't listen for long. Then in 2015 I began playing The Cure while I made jewelry, painted, did creative stuff and it felt so uplifting. I put a picture of Robert up on my office wall and felt his warm presence again in my life, the way he comforted my room as a teenager. I don't know what happens next, but I'm going to see them in London soon. I've had an amazing 3 years loving Robert again and having The Cure's music accompany my life.

I filmed most of this yesterday morning at low tide, and some this morning a little after low tide. When I came back from over the rocks three tall, male employees of the community stood shoulder to shoulder staring straight at me as I made my way back, a carry on suitcase in tow filled with silk dresses, a bag for my tripod slung over my shoulder, a heavy backpack with my camera gear and glitter shoes. Then I was approached by a security guard who told me that the coast guard had been called because they thought I was...Anyway, they appreciated what I was doing and accepted that I hadn't broken any laws.

This is my birthday tribute to Robert Smith on this day of April 21st.
