About This Build

This build is inspired by a traditional Taiwanese Sanheyuan from the 1940s, reflecting the living spaces and daily life culture of that time.


What Is a Sanheyuan?

A Sanheyuan is a traditional housing layout where three families that are all blood-related relatives live together.
For example, one unit may be for you and your parents, while the other two are for your cousins’ families.

A family shrine hall (ancestral hall) is usually located at the center of the house, serving both as a space for family beliefs and ancestor worship.

In the past, children slept in the same room with their parents, sharing one common sleeping space.
Only after growing up and getting married would they move out and form a new household—eventually creating another Sanheyuan.


Taiwanese Retro Tiles

Taiwanese retro tiles were once a symbol of wealth, social status, and blessings for a good life. They became an important decorative element in many traditional homes and remain a strong visual memory of early Taiwanese residences.


Cultural Meaning

This type of architectural form can be traced back as far as the 11th century BC during China’s Western Zhou Dynasty, and it has evolved through many eras with significant changes.
