Join me to explore the Mull of Galloway lighthouse on the Rhins of Galloway Scotland. The Mull of Galloway lighthouse and exhibition is one of the many visitor attraction on the Rhins of Galloway Scotland. The Mull of Galloway is also a RSPB nature reserve and was used as a filming location for the 2018 movie The Vanishing staring Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan.

The Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, built in 1830 by Robert Stevenson, is a white-painted round tower 26 meters high with 115 steps to the top. It is located at the edge of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula and has a range of 28 nautical miles. The lighthouse and lighthouse keepers' houses are designated as a Category A listed building. The Northern Lighthouse Board still owns and operates the lighthouse, but they are not responsible for the surrounding property/land. The lighthouse is located at the Mull of Galloway Trail, a 59 km long-distance footpath that runs from the Mull of Galloway via Stranraer to Glenapp near Ballantrae, where the trail links with the Ayrshire Coastal Path.

The Mull of Galloway lighthouse has a foghorn that has been present since 1894 and last sounded as an aid to marine navigation in November 1987. The foghorn would be operated by lighthouse keepers if seaward visibility drops below 4 miles. The lens has been loaned to the exhibition by the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses in Fraserburgh. Visitors can climb the lighthouse, visit the exhibition of lighthouse history, experience the vintage engines and foghorn, walk around the RSPB Scotland nature reserve. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man and Cumbria.
