The Waterboys es una banda formada en 1983 por Mike Scott, la composición de la misma ha girado siempre en torno a músicos de Escocia, Inglaterra e Irlanda.
Mike Scott, líder vocal de la banda, fuerza motríz, y el principal compositor... estudió literatura y filosofía en la Universidad de Edimburgo, y ha hecho amplio uso de la literatura inglesa en su música.
"The Whole of the Moon", es sin duda alguna una de las canciones bandera del grupo, la canción es un tributo al escritor C.S.Lewis.
