John Owen (1616–1683) was an English theologian who had a significant influence on Puritanism. Born in Stadham, Oxfordshire, to Puritan parents, Owen studied at the University of Oxford and became one of the most important expositors and defenders of Reformed theology in post-Reformation England. During his career, he held various positions and actively participated in the religious controversies of the time, contributing significantly to eclectic theology, Puritan spirituality, and church pedagogy. His work includes treatises on the doctrine of grace, sin-saturation, church jurisdiction, and the relationship between faith and experience, influencing generations of Presbyterian and Reformed theologians.
