In this wonderful 2017 South Korean miniseries, the Sherlock Holmes character is adapted in the form of a modern housewife, Yoo Seol-Ok, with a genius for detection, a tragic past, and a contentious partnership with her Watson, Ha Wan-Seung. Unlike most Holmeses, Seol-ok has a sunny temperament and works well with a wider ensemble team of police and civilians. She is recognizably Holmesian in all the most important ways: her passion for justice, her compassion for those suffering, her brilliant self-taught methods of deduction, her courage in facing danger, her willingness to work outside official authorities, her eccentricity, and her hunger for the truth. After watching this series, Choi Kang-hee's performance as Seol-ok immediately propelled her into my personal top 5 Holmeses of all time. This fanvid can't capture everything about the show -- in fact, it's a good deal lighter in tone than the show itself, since I don't want to get into all the serious details of the cases and spoil too many mysteries -- bit it is intended as a joyful celebration of this unique, charming, compelling adaptation.
