Welcome to Week 14 of BIO-2500: Microbiology at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), Fall 2025. This lecture introduces the fundamentals of virology, including viral structure, genome types, the Baltimore classification system, capsid forms, and the infection cycles of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. We also examine clinically important viruses such as influenza, flaviviruses (yellow fever, Dengue, West Nile), Zika virus, poliovirus, hepatitis C virus, and norovirus. Topics include replication strategies, transmission, pathogenesis, epidemiology, and antiviral approaches. These lectures are designed to support Cuyahoga Community College students as they review key topics and prepare for exams.
