Test drive: Lotus Exige S Club Racer

Test drive of an orange Lotus Exige S Club Racer from Lotus Finland. I had the car for a few hours on two days and enjoyed it in mostly rainy weather, but decided to anyway try to shoot a short video of it. The Lotus Exige S Club Racer is 15 kg lighter than the Exige S Coupe and is more tuned for track, although it still is very similar to the normal Exige. The car I was driving was with a manual gearbox but automatic with paddle shifters also comes as an option for the SCR. This car has a 3.5L V6 engine from Toyota that has been supercharged to produce 345 hp @ 7000 rpm, with a max torque of 400 Nm @ 4500 rpm. 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 4.0 seconds and the top speed for the manual version is 274 km/h.

I truly have a soft spot for cars that feel like track toys and the Exige was an incredibly fun car to drive. I also enjoyed the Porsche Cayman GTS previously and that or a Cayman GT4 would also be on my want list, so it is a difficult choice. The Exige is much more hardcore for daily use and does not come with much extras, while a Cayman is more comfortable and you can even get it with navigation etc. If the plan is to spend more time on track I believe the Exige would be a great choice, but if you spend more time on public roads, you might appreciate the comfort of a Cayman...
