A clip of me doing the Hessian encounter in Dresden, which (if you're lucky) drops the Battleship Plasma Mortar.
Encounters are a type of PvE activity in Discovery that pits the player(s) against a large NPC force. Within that force will be one to three so-called code carriers. Killing them has a chance to drop valuable weapons, in this case the aforementioned Plasma Mortar.
As a solo bomber, you're not really looking to clear out the entire force. You go in, get rid of the fighters (the biggest threat) then snipe the code carrier(s) and retreat. A lot of people say that having Rage torpedoes to snipe the target quicker and/or a cloaking device to engage/retreat, is mandatory. They certainly help speed things up, but a basic torpedo bomber and a hearty dose of strafing will get the job done just fine.
