Welcome the Corridor of Uncertainty, a new podcast at the intersection of maths & sport. Hosted by Dr Jess Hargreaves & Dr Rich Bingham, two mathematicians at the University of York.
Is the NBA just random? Basketball games are often decided by the last shot, but both teams usually score around 100 points. Does this mean that the outcome is just decided by whoever had the ball last? This would mean the winner is basically decided on a 50/50 chance. Can stats tell us if this is really the case? Does scoring a buzzer beater mean your team is good - or just lucky?
