Suresh Bhardwaj was born in Delhi in 1955. He joined the National School of Drama in 1977 and took his
diploma in Theatre Arls in 1980, joining the Rangmandal reperlory 9fBharat Bhavan, Bhopal, as Technical Director
the following year. In 1989, Shri Bhardwaj was appointed Lecturer in stage lighting at the National School of Drama,
and has subsequently ~rked as Dean (2000-2) and Professor on the School ~ Extension Programme (2002-5).
At present, he is Associate Professor at NSD.
Shri Bhardwaj has designed lights for numerous plays, festivals, and spectacles since the 1980s. His plays include
Ghasiram Katwal directed by B. v: Karanth, Three Penny Opera directed by Fritz Bennewitz, Kabira Khada Bazar Mein
directed by M.K. Raina, Ek Akasmik Maut directed by Bany John, Agni aur Barkha directed by Prasanna, andRamea
and Juliet directed by Anuradha Kapoor. He has designed lightingfor the Bhasa Samaroha at Ujjain in 1980; the
Khajuraho International Dance Festivals bet~ 1981 and 1983; and performances by dance1:\" like Durga Lal, Bitju
Maharaj, Sonal Mansingh, Radha and Raja Reddy, Yamini Krishnamurlhi, and Shovana Narayan. Shri Bhardwaj was
the lighting designer for Cosmos, a sound-and-light show at the Festival of France in India in 1989, and was the
technical visualiser for Anhad Yatra, the culminating event of the Festival of India in Bhutan in 2003. Shri Bhardwaj
has designed lighting systems for severnl auditoriums, and has taught stage ligJJh"ng as visitingfaculty in Japan,
Australia, Sri Lanka and Colombia, besides institutions in India. He has published on stage lighting in periodicals
such Bharat Rang andRang Prasang.
