Hydrochloric acid (HCl) has a chemical reaction with calcite and calcium carbonate, creating a bubbling effect that helps us identify these minerals and rocks that contain them.
Fun fact: This was my first ever geology video, posted to TikTok way back in 2020 when I was still completing my degree! The video prompted dozens of people to ask me geology questions, which quickly led to me becoming a geology communicator! This really is the video that started it all 😁
