De-clutter and Downsize Fast: Minimalism for Retirement

While many people want to de-clutter their homes or living space, knowing where to start keeps many from starting at all. Even if they start, often they get frustrated at the lack of progress and stop.

I talk about the psychology of a minimalist lifestyle and compare the art of downsizing to the financial strategies of Dave Ramsey. I use the same idea of starting small with the areas that you see most often rather than cleaning out closets. By making even small progress in those areas of your home where you spend the most time, it will encourage you to keep going to achieve that minimalist lifestyle.

I also talk about now is the time to gift those family heirlooms to children or those that will treasure them and use them rather than allowing those items to sit in a box taking up space.

It is very common as people age for their family homes to become the 'museum of the family' and this is really not necessary. Start now to prepare yourself to downsize and enjoy your best retirement.
