Today’s voyage was 21.8 miles and took us a little over 9 hours to accomplish. However, we had several locks to traverse today which takes time. Today we traversed 8 locks including locks 20 through 27 on the Trent Severn waterway.
We departed from Peterborough at 6:40 am and headed for Lock 20 to get a good jump on our day. Today’s locks included:
Ashburnham Lock
The Peterborough Liftlock
Nassau Mills
Otonabee Lock
Douro
Sawyer Creek
Lakefield Lock
And finally Youngs Point lock
Lock 23, Otonabee Lock, is a quiet lock station with great boater camping opportunities along the shoreline. This is one of the few lock stations that permits fire pits. Boaters can access the nearby trail for those who wish to go for a walk.
Lock 25, The Sawer lock is near Lakefield, Ontario, and if the prevailing west winds are up, the approach can be difficult. There is overnight dockage available here and they do have washrooms, potable water, and a picnic area.
Lakefield lock, lock 26, is just a 10 minute walk from the very tourist oriented downtown of Lakefield. You will find walking trails here and dockage is available including shore power, washrooms, showers, ice and potable water.
After transiting the Young’s Point lock, we traversed Clear Lake to the top end where we anchored for the night off Taylor Island.
The Young’s Point lock was not large enough to hold both of our vessels at the same time, so Misty Maiden went through first followed by us, before we reconnected on the north side of the lock.
It was a great anchorage for a nice calm night before we got started the next morning for a long haul day. Stay tuned for our next video where we will tackle 6 more locks and travel some beautiful areas of the Trent Severn waterway!
