The Vedas: The Oldest Hindu Scriptures

The Vedas are the oldest and most revered scriptures of Hinduism, believed to hold the ultimate truths of the universe. Composed between 1200-200 BCE and introduced to India by the Aryans, they were initially passed down orally, which is why they are called "Shrutis" (meaning "heard"). Hindus believe that these texts were divinely revealed to ancient sages and preserved through oral tradition for thousands of years.

The Vedas consist of four key sections:

1. Samhitas: The earliest part, consisting of hymns praising various deities.


2. Brahmanas: Rituals and mantras, guiding priests during religious ceremonies.


3. Aranyakas: Meditations and worship, bridging rituals with deeper spiritual practices.


4. Upanishads: Philosophical and mystical teachings, exploring the nature of reality, the self, and the divine.
