The Chernobyl disaster of 1986 cast a solid shadow over what existed here before, and what most people know is just the tiny tip of the iceberg. When the power plant and Pripyat appeared, it happened almost instantly in the scale of the history of Polissya lands. Two civilizations existed here that almost did not intersect. On one side of the Pripyat River was a high-tech nuclear facility and a shiny white city, and on the other side, people lived in wooden houses with hay roofs, practiced traditional farming, hunting, and fishing, and believed in ancient gods and cryptids of the forest and swamps mixed with Christianity.
In this episode, we will take a good look at the virtually unknown ancient history of the Chernobyl region, dramatic attempts to research it, and the origin of local beliefs, folk crafts, and customs.
