CONTEXT:
Ashley Benefield is on trial for second-degree murder for the shooting death of her husband, Doug Benefield, on September 27, 2020. When they met in late 2016 at a political function in Florida, she was a former ballerina, and he was a very wealthy man. Within 13 days of them meeting, they got married in South Carolina. They quickly had their first child, and things devolved from there, with her moving to Florida, and him following. She claims DV against him, but the State of Florida claims it was murder. Trial began with opening statements on July 23, 2024.
