Shadow's first look at the egg had us all emotional - that head touch though

Last night after Jackie laid her first egg, Shadow came by to check on her and honestly it was the sweetest thing ever. He looked at the egg not once but twice like he couldn't believe it was real, then before leaving he brushed the top of Jackie's head with his beak. These two have been through this before but watching them work together never gets old. Jackie's been doing her wingslap thing at night to keep the squirrel and mouse away from the nest now that eggs are here. This morning Shadow brought fish and they both worked on adding more fluff to keep the egg cozy. Based on last year we're expecting 2-3 more eggs spaced about 3 days apart, and they'll use that delayed incubation trick again so all the babies hatch around the same time. Can't wait to see what happens next.
