Sixty-Year-Old Succulent Botanic Garden

We tour a beautifully maintained, 1.5-acre botanic garden in San Marcos, CA. Our host is Kevin Smith of the Palomar Cactus & Succulent Society (PCSS), the garden’s caretaker for the past 7 years. Joining us is special guest Rick Bjorklund of the San Diego Cactus & Succulent Society (SDCSS).
The PCSS started the garden on the grounds of Palomar College in 1962. Ever since, members have added to, tended, and fine-tuned it. "It's filled with thousands of plants and hundreds and hundreds of species," Kevin says. 
Succulents you've seen in my books, website, and videos thrive here. You'll likely be surprised at how big certain kinds---both common and rare---can get!  A bonus is many are in bloom.
Specimens donated to the Palomar garden long ago continue to provide cuttings, offsets and pups for current members' gardens. In addition to being a horticultural showcase, the 60-year-old garden illustrates plant sharing at its best.
