Scott represents a diverse array of creative talent in all facets of the music and entertainment business. Before entering private practice, Scott worked as an in-house attorney for the major record company now known as Sony Music. While on the “inside”, he gained valuable insight into the inner workings of a media conglomerate and developed the relationships that enable him to provide practical and effective advice to his clients, which range from beginning songwriters to major-label recording artists to established independent music publishers and record labels. Regardless of size or industry status, however, Scott insists on being equally attentive and accessible to all of his clients.

Scott launched his own practice in 2007, and due to a rapidly expanding client base, joined forces with Jonathan Motley to form Safford Motley, PLC two years later. The firm has since grown into one of the preeminent providers of entertainment law services in the country. Nevertheless, he holds fast to the notion that it is always about the music and can regularly be found attending writers’ nights, client shows and industry showcases.

Scott graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky in 1994 and earned his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1997. He is a member of the Nashville Bar Association’s Entertainment & Sports Law Committee, the Tennessee Bar Association’s Sports and Entertainment Law Division and the Country Music Association. Scott has also served as a guest lecturer and panelist at Vanderbilt University College of Law, Belmont University and Middle Tennessee State University.
