Herping The Mojave Desert

While our crew has been herping in the desert southwest before, the Mojave Desert in particular was the focus of this trip. Early fall presented the opportunity to take a break from work and travel to this arid landscape and explore the local flora and fauna. As the trip got started, a speckled rattlesnake, spiny lizard and a beautiful gopher snake all put in an appearance, but things didn't start to heat up until the desert started cooling off in the evening.
Road cruising, a popular method in the evening as the air temperatures cool down and the reptiles seek the heat from the pavement tuned out to be the ticket for some fantastic finds that included a sidewinder rattlesnake, boas, and the Lyre Snake, even a tarantula!
