President Murmu’s historic address in Odisha Assembly | emotional return to her political roots

The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed a historic moment Thursday as President Droupadi Murmu addressed the House for the first time during her presidency. Calling it a deeply special occasion, she said her political journey began in the same Assembly, which played a major role in shaping her path to the country’s highest office.

President Murmu said she credited the Odisha Assembly for everything she had achieved, noting that although she had spoken in several state legislatures before, addressing the House in her home state felt truly unique. She added that her rise would not have been possible without the blessings of Mahaprabhu Jagannath.

Reminiscing about her days as an MLA and Minister, she recalled asking and answering questions in the same chamber and expressed joy at seeing several former colleagues in attendance. She also highlighted Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, maritime legacy, and contributions of leaders like Madhusudan Das, Harekrushna Mahatab, and Biju Patnaik.

The President urged legislators to uphold dignity in public conduct and work towards a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
