As Lebanon marks the 50th anniversary of the civil war that erupted in 1975, FRANCE 24 speaks to Dima de Clerck, author and professor at the American University of Beirut, to examine the war’s legacy and lingering impact on Lebanese society. “The civil war of Lebanon was not only a civil war ... Lebanese acted as proxies to regional and international powers,” de Clerck said, adding that the same dynamic continues to persist in the country.
