LATA MODI 1998 Jeevan Maru

Thanks to Mershen Ramaloo, I have managed to get hold of video footage of our Lotus fm Song writing contest 1998. The song I am featuring today can be regarded as one of my favourite from all the competitions thus far. This song was written by Shantilal Hira and was submitted in the form of a gujrati bhajan. I re arranged the melody and orchestration to suit a semi classical style and loved the way it turned out. The song sung by Lata Modi, daughter of Shantilal Hira is called Jeevan Maroo Charan mai thaara. I feel that this song represents what can be achieved when South African artist are given the opportunity, facilities and budget to produce original music. In hindsight, we know we could have done better, but it may have been the best under the circumstances. These events require 15 songs to be produced in a short space of time and all artist excelled in their performance. This was also a time when I was the sole music producer, unlike this year when I enlisted the help of four other producers to share my work load. It always helped when I chose specific available musicians to assist as their talent made a huge difference in my productions.
On this song, a little more credit can be given to musicians Karthigasan Pillay, Sivanathan Pillay, Sanjeet Thilak, Mersen Ramaloo and chorus arranged by Poovendren Pillay. Enjoy
