This was a fairly big effort. Special thanks to the Engine Simulator Discord for their assistance in making this. Inspiration comes from @BeefVellington and @WilliamMoser , especially the latter for actually doing some simple audio simulations before Engine Simulator even existed.
I've always wanted to do this since I saw videos on these engine ideas.
So, I did even more.
These engines take advantage of the myriad of things a sim like this can do. Needless to say, these engines are all uneven firing. The simplest way I can break them down, is that it's one engine running in between another., all in one line, to abide by a frequency ratio used in music. Example being: The first engine is an inline 5 that works as if it was running a parallel twin on the outer two cylinders, and an offset inline 3 in the middle 3 cylinders.
Here's each engine in order:
Perfect 5th Inline 5 (3:2 firing interval ratio) 0:00-2:14
Perfect 4th Inline 7 (4:3 firing interval ratio) 2:15-4:45
Major 3rd Inline 9 (5:4 firing interval ratio) 4:46-6:56
100 Degree Perfect 5th V10 (3:2 firing interval ratio, on each bank exclusively) 6:57-9:27
60 Degree Perfect 4th V14 (4:3 firing interval ratio, on each bank exclusively) 9:28-11:42
36 Degree Major 3rd V18 (5:4 firing interval ratio, on each bank exclusively) 11:43-13:59
The Major 3rd engines were a pain in the rear to get sorted, as there was no existing videos and or developed resources to make it. I learned statistics just to find the best firing angle offset (and vee angle where applicable).
I really enjoyed making these, though.
