Join me as I Visit The Owabi WildLife Sanctuary In Ghana |Forest Reserve
In promoting GHANA and Africa to the world, I visited one of the Beautiful Sanctuaries in the country, thus the Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary located in the Ashanti region.
The Owabi Wetland is the only inland Ramsar site in Ghana. The Wetland which is about 13km² comprises Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary (about 7km²) and the Owabi Reservoir (6km²).
The area became a game Reserve in 1962 and gazetted in March,1971 as a wildlife sanctuary. It was declared a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site) in 1988.
I found out that the Owabi Dam provides drinking water for about one-third (1/3) of KUMASI Metropolis.
It was full of an interesting hiking with the hospitable rangers.
