Warrick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, was shot dead in broad daylight outside Zambezi House in Johannesburg’s CBD on Tuesday, 16 December 2025.
Stock — a media personality, DJ, and private security operator — had recently been contracted through his company Imperium Ops International to audit and secure the building, which authorities and investigators have described as a hijacked property linked to organised crime.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Stock obtained multiple protection orders after allegedly receiving threats tied to his work at Zambezi House. On the morning of the shooting, he was inside the building when he received a phone call asking him to come downstairs. Moments later, he was confronted by armed suspects and fatally shot near his vehicle.
CCTV footage reportedly shows three suspects, including a dreadlocked gunman, who fled the scene on foot. Disturbingly, eyewitnesses say the alleged shooter later returned to the scene twice, blending in with bystanders and standing near journalists while Stock’s body lay in the street.
Following the murder, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) conducted a raid at Zambezi House. MMC for Public Safety Dr Mgcini Tshwaku confirmed that individuals linked to previous threats were questioned and that phones were seized. However, Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko later stated that no arrests had been made and that investigations were ongoing — highlighting conflicting official accounts.
The case has intensified scrutiny on hijacked buildings, organised crime networks, and the dangerous intersection between private security, property enforcement, and corruption in Johannesburg’s inner city.
One of the individuals named in a protection order, Sofia Khumalo, later spoke to News24, denying any involvement in Stock’s killing and rejecting claims that she had the means or motive to order a hit.
This video examines:
• The final days of Warrick Stock
• The threats and protection orders
• The execution caught on CCTV
• The gunman who returned to watch
• Conflicting police statements
• The broader hijacked-building underworld
