The revised IFRA policy on furocoumarins, a key feature of the upcoming 52nd Amendment, focuses on enhancing safety in the fragrance industry. Developed over years, it is built on three critical workstreams: an analytical method for quantifying individual furocoumarins, identifying specific markers, and updating evidence for maximum thresholds.
The policy introduces two changes to the IFRA Standards: the removal of some individual oils Standards and the renaming of one Standard. It also defines eight furocoumarin markers and sets three maximum threshold levels for skin contact products.
