Some serious flooding occurred overnight and this morning at Carmel-By-The-Sea. The point where the Carmel River enters the Pacific Ocean was blocked by a natural sand levee that forms from wave action when the river is low or barely running. Carmel Lagoon is behind this sand levee and homes line the lagoon. This morning the water from the Carmel River (now running significantly) backed up and began affecting many homes around the lagoon. Around mid-morning the sand levee broke (naturally) and water rushed out of the lagoon. Then emergency workers began turning on pumps to send the water back out of the neighborhood and into the lagoon. Video includes the breach and multiple flooded homes, emergency workers sandbagging homes, etc. The last clip is after the breach and water is being pumped back out of the neighborhood into the lagoon. The water fell rapidly away from homes after the breach.
