Studio 4's Sue Fleming goes "Behind the Book" with editor Megan Reid to discuss ballerina Misty Copeland's book "Life in Motion." Outside Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Sue talks with Megan about how she came to learn about Misty Copeland and become obsessed with the prospect of a black ballerina taking the performance field by storm. Megan goes on to tell us that as an Editorial Assistant she sent a fan letter to Misty and asked her to consider writing a memoir about being a famous black ballerina. Hear Megan describe the parallels she and Misty have both being black in fields typically not known for employing African Americans. Misty, of course, would go on to become the first black ballerina to be the "principal ballerina" in the American Ballet Theatre.
Her book "Life in Motion" opens a window into the life of an artist who lives life center stage, from behind the scenes at her first classes to her triumphant roles in some of the world’s most iconic ballets. It is heartfelt, inspiring, and a must read—check it out today: https://www.simonandschuster.com/book...
