Historians say that, people who came to work from Persia for Taj Mahal were later scattered throughout the country. Those who settled in Mysuru region started practicing their art on wood because unlike Agra, marble was not available here. That is how wood inlay art was originated. The popularity of the art form gradually grew and most of that happened under the patronage of the Wodeyar dynasty.
