We sat down with Artist-in-Residence Kellie Bornhoft in her studio to talk about Touchstone, an installation that considers the human body as a temporary arrangement of geological matter.
In the exhibition, Bornhoft embeds sixteen minerals found in the human body into large sheets of resin, proportioned to mirror our own material makeup and shaped like geological cross-sections. The work brings together sculpture, projected hand-drawn animations, poetic text, video, and a soundscape to trace cycles of matter moving between body and earth.
This studio visit offers insight into Bornhoft’s research-driven process and her attention to scale—where the dimensions of the human body meet geological time.
