What I love about MAD MEN, besides how damn good it was, is its willingness to show queer supporting characters living in an era when queer wasn't the safest thing to be. Here's Carol, Joan's season 1 roomie, who'd been secretly in love with her since college. The scene is heartbreaking in a way that not all queer depictions on MAD MEN were.
But because today there are people (including a Supreme Court judge) hellbent on bringing back the Bad Old Days for queer people, it's important for the public to know what level of Bad that would entail. This story gives a feel for that.
