Audi B9 RS4 Stage 1 Tuning & Dyno Results | In-Depth Performance Breakdown
In this video, we take a comprehensive look at the tuning process and performance potential of the Audi B9 RS4, starting with a baseline dyno run and progressing through Stage 1 tuning. The process highlights not only the power gains but also dives deep into gearbox tuning, data logging, fuel mapping, and essential maintenance practices to maximize reliability.
📊 Dyno Results & Stage 1 Tuning
Stock Output: Initial dyno figures come in at 437 PS and 590 Nm, slightly below average expectations for this platform.
Stage 1 Gains: With only a high-flow air filter and ECU remap, the RS4 produces 519 PS and 741 Nm—a significant jump, delivering impressive torque for minimal modification.
Octane Booster Map: Swapping to a high-octane fuel map with octane booster (EF-based) brings slight improvements to 529 PS, maintaining torque at 741 Nm. Gains are limited by the restrictive GPF (gasoline particulate filter).
⚙️ Gearbox Mapping
The video explains tuning the 8-speed ZF gearbox—particularly transitioning from the stock map to the RS4 Competition model gearbox map. Later facelift models (with 952 gearboxes) are flashed with enhanced maps, allowing for faster shifts and higher torque limits. Gearbox tuning ensures the engine is no longer constrained by factory torque caps.

The team employs a powerful logging tool capable of tracking 40+ variables per second, offering deep insight into boost, throttle, AFR, ignition timing, PID control, and more.

🧰 Maintenance & Common Issues
Despite long-life factory service intervals, tuned RS4s require more frequent maintenance.
Oil recommendations shift from factory 0W-20 to 5W-40 for better thermal protection under load.
Spark plugs and air filters should be changed every 20,000 miles—much sooner than Audi’s default intervals. Roller rocker failures (under camshafts) are a known issue; caught early, they can be addressed with updated parts featuring stronger needle bearings.

Future plans include full Stage 2 upgrades, featuring:
