Living in an Unfinished House Through Fall and Winter
What does it feel like to move into a house that isn’t finished yet (like no lights, heat or plumbing) and keep building while the seasons change around you?
This is a quiet catch-up after being gone since September. We’re saying goodbye to the year and rewinding a few months to show what life actually looked like as we moved from late summer into fall and winter. Living out of boxes, working around construction, and slowly turning an unfinished house into something that is starting to feel like home.
You’ll see the work in progress. Concrete, framing, drywall, sanding, painting, and the final push before move-in. You’ll also see the life happening alongside it. Harvesting tomatoes, canning, neighbors helping restore our lake, fields being harvested, wooly bears signaling colder days ahead, dogs in the water, wood stacked for winter, and the house slowly filling with warmth.
This isn’t a how-to or a highlight reel. It’s just an honest look at living inside the in-between. The mess, the momentum, and the quiet moments that made it worth it.
If you’re building, renovating, or living through a season that feels unfinished, I hope this makes you feel a little less alone.
