Authorities of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region have recently announced the indefinite closure of Mt. Qomolangma's base camp over environmental concerns.
The announcement means that ordinary tourists or unauthorized institutions are not allowed to visit areas of the Mt. Qomolangma National Nature Reserve that are above the Rongpo Monastery, at an altitude of nearly 5,000 meters.
