The Egg Stage: A New Beginning
The life of a ladybug starts with a cluster of small, yellow or orange eggs, typically laid on the undersides of leaves. After a few days, the eggs hatch into larvae, beginning the second stage of the life cycle.

Over several days to weeks, the larva’s body restructures into the familiar adult ladybug. During this vulnerable stage, the developing beetle is immobile and defenseless, relying on the pupa for protection.

Once metamorphosis is complete, the adult ladybug emerges. Initially pale, it quickly gains its characteristic bright colors, which warn predators of its foul taste. As adults, ladybugs continue their role as pest controllers, consuming aphids and other insects. They also reproduce, laying eggs to begin the cycle again.
