NEWNES campgrounds are situated in the Wollemi National Park, North of the Blue Mountain. The campgrounds are truely unique as there are some stunning towering mountain rock walls that hover over the entire campground. It is suitable for all vehicles although 4WD is recommended as the 5k road in is unsealed and bumpy and there is also a creek crossing.
There are plenty of bush walks and tracks to hike. The glow worm tunnels are near by as well as the Newnes historic ruins which you can explore.On our camping trip we explored a small section of the historic ruins as there are stairs and not suitable if you’re pushing a pram.
There are no powered sites and you need to bring your own drinking water. No bins are provided so make sure you take your rubbish with you. Also note that there is no phone reception at this spot which makes it all the better to switch off completely and enjoy the serenity of this natural sanctuary.
The Newnes hotel was operational from 1907 through to 1931 and it is situated at the entrance of the campgrounds. You can buy ice creams there and other treats.
We just loved the Newnes campground, we can confidently say it is one of the best camp spots in NSW that we’ve been too, and we’ve been to a lot!
