What is ethernet and how does it work?
Ethernet might sound like a complex technical term, but in reality it’s a very simple concept.
Ethernet simply refers to the technology that allows two or more devices to communicate with each other through a wire. In other words, ethernet is the alternative to WiFi (or wireless communication).
Ethernet communication occurs through an ethernet cable. An ethernet cable is made up of 8 copper wires, and devices send messages to each other via pulses of electricity that are sent through the 8 wires inside an ethernet cable.
When a device receives the pulses of electricity at the end of the ethernet cable, it translates them into the data or message it was meant to receive. This is how communication happens using ethernet technology.
When considering whether to implement ethernet in your home network, you should know that ethernet provides some benefits over WiFi communication. Ethernet communication:
-Is faster than WiFi communication
-Results in a more reliable connection than a WiFi connection
-Experiences less latency/delay when compared to a WiFi connection
As a result of these benefits, ethernet can be extremely useful when online gaming or transferring files to/from the internet.
