Repairing a Faulty Watch Balance in a Hamilton 917 (Part 4)

The Hamilton 917 watch that I’m working on, has a faulty balance assembly. This is the inspection process I will be checking the balance hole jewels, the regulator pins, and the hairspring.
In the upper and lower balance jewels, I am inspecting them under high magnification and re-cleaning the jewels. The regulator pins also needed adjustment to make them both straight.
The biggest adjustments needed to be made to the balance spring or hairspring. This watch movement has a Breguet style balance spring that needed several adjustments to even out the spacing between the coils. One the balance assembly was installed; it became apparent that the right side of the coils by the hairspring pin were bunching together. This type of balance spring fault has a big affect on the overall running of the watch and rate.
