Council on Foreign Relations’ Joseph Torigian claims the status of the People’s Liberation Army is in “existential question” following the purge of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s closest military ally.
General Zhang Youxia was placed under investigation for “grave violations of discipline and the law”.
He is reportedly accused of leaking information about China’s nuclear program to the United States.
“It really reveals just how opaque the Chinese Communist Party is,” Mr Torigian.
