Diane Larson presents some of her research data in this talk. The plight of bees and how that affects pollination of both crops and native plants have rightly received much attention. But, bees are not the only insect pollinators. Sometimes, they are not even the best pollinator for a particular plant species. This talk takes an in-depth look at the different insect taxa that carry – or don’t carry – pollen. In the end, we find that a diverse pollinator fauna is necessary for robust pollination services.
Diane Larson spent 33 years as a Research Wildlife Biologist with, first, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and then the US Geological Survey. Much of her research centered on pollination of endemic plants in national parks in the northern Great Plains. Diane retired in 2024 and now lives in Silver City, where she enjoys participating in the New Mexico Native Bee Atlas project.
Please bear through the first couple minutes of Diane's presentation -- we got through the snafu and soon you'll see her gorgeous photos in full screen.
